Stephen Betteridge-Sorby, Health and Social Care Lecturer within the Distance Learning Team for The SMB Group, has been appointed a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire in Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday Honours list published 12th June 2021 for services to the community.
Stephen originally trained as a registered Adult Nurse (York) and Sick Children’s Nurse (Great Ormond St, London) before going on to hold numerous senior clinical and executive leadership posts within the NHS, Government, Education and Charitable sectors, as well as serving as British Transport Police and Railway Industry Chaplain for over 8 years.
He received the Nelson Mandela Change Maker Award in 2015 for services to Equality and Diversity. This award recognises not only a 30 year career in public service but also his work supporting Faith Communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stephen said “It is a delight and a privilege as well as most humbling to receive this Honour, graciously bestowed upon me by Her Majesty The Queen. I dedicate it to the memory of my late parents who supported and inspired me to pursue the varied and wonderful career I have had to date, that has led me to work with so many remarkable colleagues, patients, faith communities and students thus far”.
