Having studied at Brooksby, on the Level 3 Countryside Management course for two years, the skills and knowledge that I gained inspired me to focus on a career in forestry. The tutors, course content and Brooksby estate provided the necessary tools and depth for learning.
Subsequently, I went onto study for a degree at Bangor University, BSc Forestry. Through my degree I had the opportunity to work a placement year, covering woodland and estate management and advice. The time spent at Brooksby helped to secure this position and strengthened my skills, to secure a job in the sector at the end of my degree.
I now work for the National Forest as Woodland Manager. This role leads on the outreach work on woodland management, pests and diseases and woodland economy across the nearly 200 square miles of the National Forest. A career in forestry, is a fantastic way to earn a living, changing and developing landscapes and habitats to benefit the environment, economy and local communities. My career path started through developing my knowledge and skills at SMB College and led me to where I am today.
