The Uniformed Public Services course at the Brooksby Campus prepared me for getting into the Army by giving me the time and facilities to get up to the physical standard – for example I was able to practise the bleep test as much as I needed to. The expertise of my Lecturers also helped me to ensure that I was training correctly, both physically and mentally. I also learned valuable skills like map reading so that I had a good grasp of the basics before developing these skills once I joined the Army.

At the moment, I’m stationed in London and am a part of the King’s Guard, meaning that I’ve had the opportunity to take part in some really prestigious events like the King’s Coronation (for which I received a medal) and the King’s Birthday Parade, in addition to other ceremonial and public duties. I have also been able to meet King Charles himself, which was a highlight.

Since joining the army last year, I’ve also had the chance to travel, having spent some time in Spain training with the reservists and the Spanish Army. I look forward to future travel opportunities as my service continues.

My current role within the Army is as an Infanteer and Guardsman, and my long-term goal at is to get my Long Service Good Conduct Medal, which should take about 15 years.
