The control and prevention of infection plays an important role in the infrastructure of the healthcare system. An estimated 300,000 patients a year acquire some form of healthcare-related infection. Our nationally recognised qualification is designed to provide an understanding of the importance of prevention and control of infection and, on achievement, evidences that the learner has fully understood these key principles

  • What will I learn?
    The principles of infection control including roles and responsibilities, the importance of personal hygiene, how infections are caused and how to maintain a safe clean environment.
  • How will I learn?
    By reading the allocated workbooks and answering set questions.
  • How will I be assessed?
    Alongside the learning materials you will have the support of a knowledgeable assessor/tutor who will give you support, advice and guidance on the course content as well as providing robust feedback on the work you complete. Successful completion of this course ensures that the learner has fully understood these important principles.
  • Where could this course lead to?
    Completing any of the other courses including End of Life Care or the Safe Handling of medication. Working in a care setting
  • What qualifications or experience do I need?
    There are no previous entry requirements for this qualification. As this is a Distance Learning programme, you must be able to commit some spare time to work on your assessments in between your tutorials.
