SMB College Group students recently took part in an array of exciting induction activities to mark the first week of this academic year!

Second Year students on the college’s T Level programme in Health (Supporting Adult Nursing) were invited to take part in a range of inductions to the various Health Laboratories at De Montfort University.

Students were able to observe clinical skills, waste management processes, blood pressure monitoring, Oxygen saturations (using Oximeters), manikin demonstrations, urine dip analysis, FTIR analysis and much more!

This enrichment follows on from a recent visit to the University before summer break. The College is delighted to have been invited back, with students enjoying the new experiences and activities with DMU.

Enrichment activities have also been taking place across the rest of SMB College Group!

Equine students took part in lots of fun activities and demos including drawing equine anatomy onto the horses, tacking up, riding sessions, a McTimoney Chiropractor demo, and other ice-breaker activities.

Theatre Production Company, Frantic Assembly, paid the Performing Arts students a visit to conduct a workshop, with the aim of supporting, developing and enhancing learning around Physical Theatre and Devising.

Over the summer, the college’s ultra-dedicated Media students came in for a summer filming project in order to gain some experience with the equipment before starting their course, and for their induction week they went on a tour of the campus to scope out new filming locations!

The Early Years & Education T Level students went on a riddle hunt around the College’s Brooksby Campus, competed in playdough challenges, parachute games and more.

Up at the Brooksby Campus Animal Care Unit, students were tasked to design and create a protective outer for an egg which was then dropped from 10ft - all but one survived! They also were put into small groups and had to set up a tent, with the winning group completing the challenge in a fantastic time of 5 minutes and 26 seconds!

Construction at the College’s Stephenson Campus got involved in some CAD (computer aided design), work which is a skill they’ll be utilising throughout the remainder of their course; CAD has revolutionized construction, transforming how we go about drawing, designing, and building.

The College is so proud of all of their students for getting stuck in with their induction week activities, and we are excited to see how far they go in the new year!
