The Equine Department at SMB College Group’s Brooksby Campus have kicked off a successful new academic year with an emphasis on student enrichment and experience!
Last month, Level 2 and Level 3 Equine students attended a ‘Road Safety Whilst Riding’ talk delivered by Alan Hiscox from the British Horse Society, and the Lecturing team have a host of further exciting events in store for the remainder of the term.
Soon, students will be attending an Eventing Demo from Katie Barber, full-time rider who has competed internationally for Team GB.
The cohort will also be attending the Osberton Horse Trials, going on a cross-country course walk and watching the eventing, in addition to touring Leicester Race Course, where they will be given the opportunity to watch the racing.
Vanessa Hardy of Horse Bit Fit Academy, a leading bit and bridle course and equine education provider, will also be visiting the Brooksby Campus to deliver a guest lecture for the Level 2 and 3 students to support their tack modules – essential knowledge for students as tack is used to help the rider communicate with the horse and ensures both are safe and comfortable.
The Equine department also emphasises the importance of the business side of the Equine industry; Molly Baxter from the British Horse Society will be giving a talk on career progression and social licensing, and the College’s own Marketing Team will be delivering a guest talk for the students taking the Events Management module.
Students have been enjoying the varied and exciting Autumn term so far, with Molly Freer, Level 2 Equine Technical Skills Student, commenting: “I have loved the start of my SMB College Group journey so far due to the amazing campus and kind, approachable staff!”
Students at the college benefit from expert tuition from event riders, dressage judges and highly qualified and experienced coaches. The care and management courses are committed to developing local skills and knowledge to meet the increasing requirements of employers in the industry.
Equine courses are delivered at SMB College’s Brooksby campus, an 850-acre campus based in the heart of Leicestershire, where students access a range of horses, from novice to advanced, and state-of-the-art facilities including the college’s Equine Rehabilitation Centre.
