Meet Leanora Knott, SMB College Group BSc Sport and Exercise Science graduate! We recently caught up with Leanora about her time studying with us and her career journey since graduation.
Leanora started at SMB College Group’s Brooksby campus studying Level 3 Sport Science and progressed onto completing her degree in Sport and Exercise Science at the College.
What made you decide to study with us?
I decided to study at Brooksby as the Sport facilities had been newly renovated and with links it had with well-known clubs and the location, it seemed like a good choice to study at.
What was your favourite part of your course?
My favourite part about the course was the amazing 1 to 1 help you get with your lecturers. As the classes are smaller size compared to your normal university classes, you can receive a more 1 on 1 help with your modules and more support with your studies. I enjoyed the environment it composed between all the students and with the lectures, allowing to create friendships for life. Brooksby and the lectures also allowed to great opportunities such as allowing me to get my level 3 qualification in sports massage which was down to my lecture Mike Sage. However, also offering a variety of extra qualifications such as the level 3 PT qualification. Having close links with established clubs such as Leicester Tigers help me when it came to gathering participants for my dissertation. And overall, the community it provided in helping me gain the qualifications and experience i needed to get future jobs.
What are you doing now since leaving the College?
After completing my degree at Brooksby I got offered a job working in the NHS as a Trainee Cardio Respiratory Associate Practitioner. In my job I currently work one of the most renowned hospitals in the country for its specialised and innovative contributions particularly in the fields of cardiac and respiratory.
What are your long-term career aspirations?
My long-term career aspirations within my job is to continue progressing and eventually specialise in a particular field of cardiology… however that won’t be for several years yet.
How was your experience of moving from Further to Higher Education here at SMB?
At first it was not particularly the easiest as there is a big jump from further to high education however with the support from the lecturers it was made easier.
