SMB College Group Maths and English students have stormed to success in the November 2024 resits, achieving above national average results!
The College achieved an overall pass rate of 36.5%, with a 38% pass rate in Maths and a 35% pass rate in English, meaning that students achieved above the national averages across both subjects.*
Some November re-sit success stories from the College’s Brooksby Campus include Joe Vesty and Noah Steward, who both progressed from grade 3 to grade 5 in Maths, Oscar Lowe who progressed from a grade 2 to grade 5 in English, and Poppy Owen who passed both Maths and English!
Stephenson Campus also had its fair share of the success stories, with Euan Pollard achieving a grade 5 in Maths and Tommy Shelton achieving a grade 4, which will allow him to continue with his Level 2 Electrical Installation course at the college. Two Stepenson Campus students, in particular, demonstrated fantastic commitment and resilience, with Max Wilkinson achieving his grade 4 in English and Emma Blyth achieving a grade 4 - both after trying three times to obtain their desired grade!
A particular stand-out was Tom Lloyd, a Brooksby Campus student who passed GCSE Maths and Foundation Studies English this year! Tom’s lecturers Sadiqa Miah and Vicky Oakes, said:
“Tom came to us at the beginning of the year and asked if he could be put in for the November resit as he has worked independently to attain his Level 1. He attended all lessons in the run up to his exams and after. He was punctual, well behaved and a model student. It was evident that he was putting in hard work in his mocks and lessons and demonstrated the ability to pass. We are very proud of him for his achievements, and are incredibly impressed with how he’s become a fantastic role model for his peers.’
These fantastic results come in the wake of a variety of positive changes made by Siobhan Howard, Head of Curriculum and Quality for English and Mathematics at SMB College Group.
Siobhan said: ‘I joined SMB College Group in April 2023 and since then we have made a host of positive changes, including new staff and increased training opportunities for Lecturers. We are on a journey and are making great progress. We had 70 students attain a grade 4-9, which will aid their progression after College. I am so proud of the team and of the students.’
‘Our Maths team recently had the privilege of participating in additional training with White Rose Maths, expertly facilitated by Shobhna Fletcher. This training was remarkable and has definitely helped out staff to support students to achieve. A huge thank you to Shobhna and White Rose Maths for their invaluable support and guidance; together, we're making a difference!’
SMB College Group offers a variety of courses from Level 1 to Level 3, with opportunities to re-take Maths and/or English GCSEs alongside. The college also offers evening courses in English and Maths for adult learners at their Stephenson Campus.
