A newly-renovated Melton Theatre will be re-opening in May this year for the first time since its closure during the March 2020 lockdown!
The theatre, which has been a prominent feature in the community of Melton Mowbray for over 45 years, has been closed since the first Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020. During the closure, the theatre has undergone a series of renovations and is now on track for its grand re-opening this May.
Renovations include all new air conditioning and heating in the auditorium, new emergency lighting in the whole theatre, new fire doors backstage, and redecorated dressing rooms.
The first shows back will be the SMB College Group Performing Arts degree shows in May, Level 3 Performing Arts shows in June, and the first commercial show, the ‘Bon Jovi Experience’, on 8th July.
Arnie Breen, Melton Theatre Manager and Section Manager for Performing Arts, Creative Media and Hair & Beauty at SMB College Group, said ‘We have been waiting a long time for these renovation works, so we are really excited to finally be getting them done, in anticipation of the theatre reopening in May this year. We will be offering college/student shows as well as professional shows, and are currently busy booking acts for the good people of Melton and beyond to enjoy in air-conditioned luxury! Our new website is under construction at present, but tickets will be available at the box office or via phone very soon.’
Over the years, Melton Theatre has played host to a wide range of impressive acts, including Lee Evans, Alan Carr, Kenn Dodd, and Paul Daniels, in addition to college theatre productions, pantos, dance shows, and much more.
The theatre is also a fantastic resource for SMB College Group’s Performing Arts and Creative Media students, providing them with a real industry-standard environment to learn and perform in.
