We've planted trees across our Stephenson, Melton and Brooksby Campuses to support ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’!
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a fantastic initiative that invited people from across the UK to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’. We supported the movement last month by planting trees across our Stephenson Campus in Coalville, Melton Campus in the heart of Melton Mowbray, and at our specialist land-based Brooksby Campus!
Photographed here, Dawn, Principal of the SMB College Group, welcomed Rupert Matthews, Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland, to the Stephenson Campus where they planted a pear tree together in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee and The Green Canopy initiative.
Also planted at the Stephenson Campus is a native hawthorn, and native beech trees were planted at the Melton and Brooksby Campuses. We have further planned to plant an additional 10 cherry trees over the summer.
Dawn said that “The Queen’s Green Canopy provides the opportunity to be part of a fabulous legacy. We are a college that are committed to supporting our students, staff, and our communities to be as passionate about our countryside, our planet, and the wonderful creatures it serves as they are about being part of the SMB College Group family
“We have had students and staff involved in planting a number of trees across all three campuses, which includes our agro-forestry field - It’s been hard work, fun, and definitely rewarding!”
