Last weekend, representatives from SMB College Group attended the UK Material Handling Association’s ‘Archies’ Awards to support five of their apprentices who’d made it to the final in the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ category!

SMB College Group Apprentice, Dan Allen, secured the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ win, earning himself a well-deserved £500 cheque for his work as an apprentice with Crown Trucks.

Tom Broadhead, another SMB College Group Apprentice, this time from Linde Material Handling UK, also secured himself a ‘Highly Commended’ recognition within the Apprentice of the Year category.

Other finalists from SMB College Group included Jack Ducker (Linde Material Handling), Jack Batten (STILL Materials Handling) and Xavier Graham (Crown Lift Trucks).

Paul Dancer, Director of Engineering, Transport and Future Technologies at SMB College Group, said ‘It was a pleasure to attend the Archies Awards in support of five of our brilliant apprentices who were nominated in the Apprentice of the Year category.

‘The UK’s Material Handling sector is of vital importance to our economy, which is why SMB College Group is proud to play a part in training the next generation of Forklift Truck Engineers at our Stephenson Campus in Coalville, which is currently celebrating its 100th year of delivering high-quality technical qualifications to the local and national community.

‘Well done to all of our apprentices for their hard work and dedication, and thank you to our employer partners with whom we work to ensure our young people get the very best out of their apprenticeship programmes.’

The awards, which took place at Hilton Birmingham Metropole, celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of the material handling industry, with many of the big names from the UK’s Material Handling industry in attendance on the evening - from Toyota Material Handling UK to Linde, STILL, Crown and more.
