Leicestershire-based SMB College Group is delighted to share with you their success, in partnership with Barratt Developments, at the 2022 AAC Apprenticeship Awards.

The Stephenson Campus in Coalville has long be known as a key player in providing high-quality Construction apprenticeship opportunities to students across the county and beyond. They’ve secured impressive partnerships with the likes of Barratt Developments – one of the UKs top home builders - allowing the group to offer excellent learning opportunities to students.

This special partnership has been recognised at the FE Week and AELP AAC Apprenticeship Awards, where Stephenson Campus and Barratt Developments were awarded Construction Apprenticeship Provider of the Year 2022.

This annual event is a celebration of excellence in apprenticeship delivery in the UK and recognition for well-deserving employers and providers.

Carolyn Haines, Section Manager for Construction, accepted the award on behalf of the College alongside her colleagues. She said, “We’re so proud to have won this award. We have an amazing team who work very hard to create an apprenticeship offer that enables our students to graduate industry-ready.

“Our apprentices go on to have great careers in Construction and I hope that this award will open the door to others considering a similar path, in Leicestershire and beyond.”

Carolyn herself was recently awarded ‘Apprenticeship Champion for 2021’ by NOCN Group, in recognition of her consistent drive for excellence within the apprenticeship field, and demonstrating commitment to ensuring apprentices receive the very best learning and support.

Grant and Funding Manager Phil Evans, who oversees Barratt’s trade apprenticeship programmes, said: “We are delighted to see the Stephenson Campus team receive the recognition they deserve, winning the Construction Apprenticeship Provider of the Year Award. It has been a phenomenal effort by all the team, they adapted successfully to the disruption caused by the Covid pandemic while maintaining their high standards of training and education.

“Together, we have delivered our trade apprentice programme this year, with over 86% of the apprentices passing their End Point Assessment, in a record time. Our close and ongoing partnership is vital in encouraging and developing the talented tradespeople that our industry urgently needs.”

SMB College Group’s Stephenson Campus is a well-known training centre for a wide variety of Construction and Engineering trades. Students are able to enrol onto full-time programmes, apprenticeships, T Levels, short courses and more, with a range of opportunities available from Entry Level up to Undergraduate study.
