The CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management is a Intermediate-level, professional qualification based on the CIPD Profession Map. The Map was launched in 2018, having been developed in collaboration with a wide range of experts working at the heart of the profession. It sets the international benchmark for the people profession and provides a strong foundation to give people professionals the confidence and capabilities to guide their decision-making, actions and behaviours.

This qualification extends and fosters a deeper level of understanding and application and naturally progresses learners' expertise in people practice. It is suited to individuals who:

  • are aspiring to, or embarking on, a career in people management

  • are working in a people practice role and wish to contribute their knowledge and skills to help shape organisational value

  • are working towards or working in a people manager role.
  • What will I learn?

    Each unit within the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management has clear linkage to the Profession Map. 

    You will complete a total of 7 units in order to gain the certificate.

  • How will I learn?
    You will learn through a variety of taught sessions, workshops, case studies and discussions. You learn as much from other people in the class as you do from the text books - you might be very surprised at how much you already know.
  • How will I be assessed?
    There is a good mix of assessment methods - you may be asked to give a presentation, participate in interview scenarios, write a short report or design an information leaflet. There are no exams and lots of support to help you throughout. The CIPD will set assignments for all core units which you will complete. Assessment for the CIPD Level 5 is a mixture of academic and employer-driven and aimed at real scenarios that you may encounter in your future career.
  • Where could this course lead to?
    The Associate Diploma and HRM is a full Level 5 professional qualification that is highly regarded by business so will lead to roles in HR Management. Successful achievement of the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in HRM will allow progression onto the CIPD Level 7 Learning. When the successful achievement of this program is completed and you pair it with a sound work experience in HR, you should see your career progress and HR Management or HR Subject Matter Expert opportunities manifest. This program is a great way to progress your learning and professional journey.
  • What qualifications or experience do I need?
    This qualification is designed for learners aged 18+ who want to learn about people practice or L&D practice. Although there are no formal entry requirements, it is expected that learners will be capable of academic research, applying theory and the research to workplace examples. There is a requirement for a strong literacy and numeracy ability to complete the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management. Those with no HR work experience would benefit from completing the CIPD Level 3 Certificate in People Practice.

    The course is delivered over 18 months on a Wednesday evening.
