The course is tailored to individual needs and sessions run in a supportive environment with experienced teachers. The course is suitable for people who want to increase their confidence, progress at work, get a job or help their children. The course is split into 3 units: Reading, Writing and Speaking and Listening. You will develop and become confident in discussions and presentations; reading and writing a wide variety of texts; and using accurate punctuation, grammar and spelling. The Reading and Writing unit will be assessed through an external exam. The Speaking and Listening element will be carried out in college.

  • How will I be assessed?
    Initial and diagnostic assessment at the start of the course followed by continuous review of student work. At the end of the course, students will sit two separate online exams for reading and writing and two classroom-based assessments for speaking and listening.
  • Where could this course lead to?
    Progression would be to Level 2 Functional Skills English and could also be to selected vocational courses.
  • What qualifications or experience do I need?
    No qualifications are necessary, but an Entry Level 3 English qualification would be an advantage. Acceptance by individual interview and assesssment.
  • How long is the course?
    20 weeks. Two start dates: September and February.
