If you love sport, keeping active and inspiring others to push themselves, then a career in Sport or Sports Science could be for you.
The sports industry is truly dynamic and exciting, with a variety of job opportunities in coaching, teaching, fitness, leisure and sports development in the UK and all over the world. When joining a sports course at SMB College Group, you will learn about the body, injury, technical skills, tactics, coaching and fitness for sports performance. Our courses also have personalised pathways geared around your individual goals, no matter what your starting point.
Our Brooksby Campus is home to our £3.6 million specialist sports complex, housing a sports hall, a 3G pitch, sports lab and 3 full-sized rugby pitches, as well as an indoor and outdoor strength and conditioning suite. Students will also have access to state of the art computers and elite sport standard software to develop their analytical skills and knowledge.
Our teaching staff are experts from the sector and specialists in their area and, through our relationships with our external partners, our students have the opportunity to undertake work experience in elite sport. Additionally, our students have the opportunity to study for additional awards and certificates that can boost their CVs, including a leadership pathway, working with local schools and clubs.
We also run a range of exciting programmes in partnership with Leicester Tigers (Rugby) and Future Elite (Football) - allowing talented, ambitious students of any gender to gain an exceptional education alongside rugby or football training with highly qualified coaches.
Steve heads up the ACE rugby provision at our Brooksby Campus (AOC partner college of Leicester Tigers!) Having played in the UK, Hong Kong and Australia, Steve started his coaching journey over 20 years ago, during which time he’s been involved with the Tigers Junior Academy where he’s coached a number of players who’ve gone on to represent both Leicester Tigers and England.
In addition, Steve has had the opportunity to coach in Belgium, Chile, Malaysia and Australia. More recently, he took a lead on the defence of Leicester Tigers Women’s team during which time the Women’s team won the Women’s Championship North in a record breaking season scoring 866 points and conceding just 79 (setting the record for the fewest points conceded by any team male or female at any level) a season which saw him coach at Twickenham in the final.
Steve is delighted to be coaching the team in this fixture and is excited to be working with the players and coaches in what promises to be an historic and special occasion.

I feel like I gained a lot more knowledge of the game and improved my skills in the technical and tactical units. I was given really good support around my rugby and my college work, where reflective practice was encouraged through the DiSE qualification.
