Earlier this week, Sport students from our Brooksby Campus received an exciting guest lecture from Chris Connelly, Senior Performance Analyst for GB Boxing!
Chris, who is also the lead analyst for two-time unified heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua OBE, delivered his guest lecture virtually, allowing around 150 students to benefit from his extensive expertise in the world of elite sport.
The talk covered a variety of topics, including what it takes to work in elite sport, the role of an analyst, and some ‘behind the scenes’ insights into his day-to-day as Senior Performance Analyst at GB Boxing. Chris also touched on the work he carried out with Anthony Joshua in preparation for his latest fight.
The lecture wrapped up with a Q&A, where Chris emphasised the importance of work experience and spoke about his highlight moment at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
Andy Graham, Section Manager for Sport at the SMB Group, said ‘We are extremely grateful to Chris for taking the time to discuss his work with our students at SMB Group. The guest lecture not only inspired the learners, but also gave them an important insight into how aspects of their education can be embedded to create future career opportunities’.
Chris works with GB Boxing athletes in the gym on a daily basis, and also supports them at competitions and major events, such as Rio 2016. He will also be part of the team during the upcoming Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games. In addition, he previously carried out work for The Premier League, Stoke City Football Club, GB Handball and UK Goalball.
