On Completion of this apprenticeship, the apprentice will have acquired occupational skills and knowledge to be able to ? · Maintain animal and crop health · Support with general farm operations · Have a good understanding of health & safety and biosecurity · Carry out first aid · Handling pesticides safely (PA1) Optional Pathways · Livestock worker duties · Crop worker duties Optional extra courses (payable) · PA2/ PA6 - Handling and safe use of pesticides using boom sprayer/knapsack sprayers · Forklift · Chainsaw (CS30)

  • What will I learn?
    · Day release at college for the duration of the course. · Undertake training at college and in the workplace · Build a portfolio of evidence of competence · Work towards English and Maths level 2 is not already achieved. · PA1 and possibly PA2 or PA6 spraying course · Emergency First aid in the workplace level 3
  • How will I learn?
    You will learn the above skills in a combination of environments, classroom, workshop and whilst on site working as a General Farm Worker
  • How will I be assessed?
    · End point assessment to demonstrate the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours of a farm worker. (total of 5 exams carried out by Lantra)
  • Where could this course lead to?
    This course could lead to progression onto the level 3 Apprenticeship. Livestock unit technician level 3 Crop technician level 3
  • What qualifications or experience do I need?
    Age 16+ 30 hours a week minimum contract of employment on a farm. Typical job titles ? Assistant heard person, general farm operative, Shepherd, Stockperson or tractor driver.
  • How long is the course?
    Duration is 18 months, college attendance is day release. Attendance at college will be one day a week (Monday) where the apprentice will receive more underpinning knowledge, theory and practical skills. The majority training will take place with your employer in the workplace.
