This course is designed for learners looking to start a career in the Electrical Installation industry. If you enjoy practical work and have an eye for detail, electrical installations could be a great career for you. Electricians install and maintain the equipment needed for the safe and efficient use of electricity, including fitting and repairing electrical circuits and wiring.

  • What will I learn?
This Diploma has five mandatory units, which between them cover health and safety, electrical installation theory and technology, electrical installation methods, procedures and requirements, electrical installation craft skills and electrical science and principles. Within the qualification, the learner will have the opportunity to utilise the IET On-Site Guide, and also be introduced to how regulations (including BS 7671) affect electrical installation. The qualification covers standard circuits as described in the On-Site Guide. You will also complete the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment. Upon full completion, this enables you to apply for a Construction Operative Card, allowing you to work on a construction site.
  • Where could this course lead to?
Upon successful completion of the course, students can progress on to further education, such as Electrical Installation Level 3, or a related course in the Construction industry. You may also wish to undertake an apprenticeship or go straight in to employment.
  • What qualifications or experience do I need?
4 GCSEs at Grade D/3 or above including English and Maths. Learners with lower grades or relevant experience will be considered subject to an additional assessment and/or supporting reference from their school or employer. If you miss the English and/or Maths requirements of your course, don't worry - there are options to study these alongside your course.
