The Diploma focuses on performance using practical skills, knowledge and understanding and is an ideal pathway to a range of careers within engineering.

  • What will I learn?
    Mandatory units include: Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace; Mechanical Principles and Applications; Electrical and Electronic Principles; Mathematics for Engineering Technicians. You will also choose five of the following as optional units: Engineering Design; Commercial Aspects of Engineering Organisations; Properties and Applications of Engineering Materials; Applications of Mechanical Systems in Engineering; Electro; Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems and Devices; Selection and Using Programmable Controllers; Electrical Installation.
  • How will I be assessed?
    Each unit is assessed by a formal portfolio of written reports and documented practical work. There are no external exams for this course.
  • Where could this course lead to?
    The course is designed as a pathway into employment within the engineering sector or onto Higher Education, e.g. HNC/HND or Foundation Degree in High Performance Engineering.
  • What qualifications or experience do I need?
    4 GCSEs at Grade D/3 or above including English and Maths. Learners with lower grades or relevant experience will be considered subject to an additional assessment and/or supporting reference from their school or employer. If you miss the English and/or Maths requirements of your course, don't worry - there are options to study these alongside your course.
